HI Adrijus – I reached out to Kelly with your question and this was his response: Market size of audio is approaching $2.5 billion today, growing between 30% and 40% annually. As audio sales continue to grow at that rate, they could overtake eBooks in the future if such sales continue to stagnate. The higher price point for audio certainly contributes to this as audio unit sales would not be as high as eBook unit sales.

Good point Liam. This will likely impact authors in the EU and authors who have readers living in the EU.

Hi Tom – Congrats on publishing your novel. The first step to promotion is to ensure that your book has a great cover and description on Amazon. Once the book is ready to be put in front of readers, we recommend running a free promotion on the book if you are enrolled in KDP Select. If you are not in KDP Select we recommend dropping the price of the book to 99c so you can run a price promotion. You then purchase a promotion slot from one of the promotion sites that are out there. We run Freebooksy and Bargain Booksy so we’d love for you to use our service. Reedsy has a great tool that allows you to browse all the promotion sites that are out there to find the one that is right for you. Running a price promotion is an effective way to get your first sales and first reviews and increase your Amazon ranks. You can read this article for a more in-depth explanation of how it works. Please also feel free to reach out to us if you have more questions, we’re happy to help.

I ran a couple of Facebook promos and found them too pricey for the returns they provided. Amazon AMS works well for now, but who knows how I’ll feel by the end of the year.

Re your first point: I become so irritated with trad publishers who price their ebook offerings higher than paperbacks. I love my Kindle, but I boycott overpriced Kindle books.

All the best for 2018!

What is it based on? The higher price or it will literally become more popular then ebooks (which would mean it would becoe more popular then books in general).

I have written another novel which I am currently working on and I am trying to market my currently published e-book ‘The Hartnetts’ as best I can. What would be my best choice for promotion?

I think one thing that should not be underestimated when it comes to email marketing is the impact of the looming GDPR regulations. I can foresee a lot of authors abandoning their email lists particularly if they are poorly subscribed in order to avoid the complexity of GDPR compliance. So while personalisation can be a really great direct marketing tool – the new “cost” and potential risks of collecting even basic personal information may discourage indie authors from building even modest mailing lists.
