After two weeks and a fair number of sales, the Also Bought list for my new novel is not populating. I’ve never had this happen before. Any suggestions for a fix?

That really doesn’t explain why you would have 30 different ads running for one novel when you can target multiple authors in the same ad. I am puzzled.

Hi Duke – I can’t comment on all the questions you’ve posted on AMS but I do know that it is challenging to spend your total budget. There are some threads on Kboards where authors have shared their learnings that would be worth checking out.

Thanks, and I really appreciate your help!

I think I’m getting this … in AMS, click ‘new campaign’ button, then click ‘sponsored product’ option for campaign type, then choose which book I’m promoting. My books all show up, no problem.

I tried entering one of the similar title’s asin in the search box and it wouldn’t accept it, can only promote my titles … (just checking in case that’s what I was supposed to do with the new list of titles – wasn’t 100% sure, now I am)

The keywords that I’m currently using for GBT using would be appropriate for the books in my list of similar titles … music education. I started with about 150 words, have trimmed it back to about 100 that generate views/clicks/sales.

So, my first question … could I just ‘copy’ the existing campaign, maybe edit-tailor my keyword list a bit, include the new author and title, re-name it … do it again?

I understand I’ll want to check daily once they’re running and assuming I’ll want to pay attention to the views/clicks on the new title/author as well as ACoS etc. I’m thinking I’d do a dozen campaigns to start, add another dozen in a couple weeks.

Of course, I’m wondering what might happen to the existing campaign if I suddenly have a dozen unique campaigns running, with about the same keyword list? Any thoughts?

The campaign now has daily budget set at $15, hasn’t come close to that yet. Any recommendation about budget for the new campaigns?

And, last question … after a while, with a bit of luck and patience, this will help GBT to start showing up as an “Also Bought” on other pages?

Pretty sure the Countdown deal requires enrolling in KDP and this title is not eligible, it’s an ebook via Ingram too.

Thanks again!

DS

Hi Duke – Congrats on your success with AMS so far. I’d recommend creating new ad campaigns for the list of authors and books you’ve found and make each one distinct to the author and their titles. For example, if one your targets is JK Rowling and one of your titles is Harry Potter, I’d set up a unique campaign and call it Rowling/Potter and include all keywords related to Rowling and the Harry Potter books in one campaign. I’d then set up another campaign for the second author and all their related titles, and so on. Make sense? For the promotion service, it sounds like Freebooksy will not work given your book size, but you could run a Bargain Booksy promo whenever you next run a Kindle Countdown Deal.

Great post, really shed some light on how Amazon’s ‘Also Bought’ system works.

I’ve been running a ppc ad using my list of keywords for quite a while and it’s been profitable, about $7500 in sales, my ACoS is down around 7.5 %, and have earned 43 five star reviews. All good.

But it’s time to adjust, started digging and found your article and a similar post by Jane Friedman (https://www.janefriedman.com/using-amazon-kdp-ads-sell-ebook-amazon/ Jan 2017)

She also recommends using book titles and authors with keywords, just including those titles and names with all the other keywords but it doesn’t seem to be as focused on the ‘also bought’ idea. So I did that yesterday, added a bunch of titles and authors to the list of keywords, still pending review. (sponsored product, manual targeting)

Then I followed your suggestion and looked at yasif. Not good … 243 similar books and zero pointing at my book.

So … I’m up for running a bunch of unique campaigns for my list of comparable books … did a search and have my list, but I’m not clear on how to use those titles.

Do I run individual campaigns with all the keywords I have now and add the title and author to that list?

Or campaigns with only the title and author as keywords? Or … ?

I’d also be interested in using the promotional services for free books, but mine is not enrolled in KDP and it’s 130MB so their delivery fee of 15¢ per MB is close to the retail price of $15, don’t think I can do this.

Thanks again,
Duke Sharp

Hi Brooke – Once you make a list of the authors and titles in your sub-genre, you actually enter those keywords into your Amazon Ads (AMS) campaigns. We’re working on a post that walks you through how to set up AMS campaigns with keywords and I’ll ping you when it’s ready. I’d also recommend this free course to get a handle on AMS.
